What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a meditation-based practice that consists of training the attention to become aware of the present moment. It is a basic and universal human capacity.

Mindfulness helps us to know ourselves better, to investigate within ourselves and that makes us evolve internally. The main objective is to provide us with a method to reconnect with our body and learn to manage our emotions, reactions, attitudes and thoughts, in order to be able to face the situations that life presents us with.

It also helps us to become aware that what causes us discomfort or suffering is not the facts themselves, but the interpretation we make of them. The purpose is that we learn to become aware of the deep causes of suffering, accept them whatever they may be, and make decisions and act to free ourselves from them. It is always practiced from kindness and non-judgment, and not only for one’s own benefit, but also for the benefit of others.

Mindfulness practice does not require a demanding body position and does not take place in a religious context.

What does the course consist of?

The MBSR course (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) is a psycho-educational mindfulness training program, very well structured and based on science that supports and guarantees results both physically, emotionally and mentally.

Its creator is the American molecular biologist Jon Kabat-Zinn, and he began teaching it in 1979 at the Memorial Medical Center of the University of Massachusetts. It is the most widespread Mindfulness program in the world.

The format is one 2.5 hour session per week for eight weeks, and after the 5th or 6th session, we will do a one-day practice (a Saturday or Sunday) outside the center, close to nature.

It is both a physical and mental workout suitable for almost everyone. We will discuss this in more detail at the briefing.

Small groups, in this case 8 people, are perfect, as it is important that the participants feel comfortable explaining what is happening to them and that an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality is created.

Hi, I'm Mònica! responsible for teaching the course.

I started meditating over 20 years ago, but it was through formal and informal Mindfulness practices that I ended up consolidating my commitment to the practice. The benefits I have experienced physically, mentally and emotionally have helped me move forward and handle really difficult times in my life. For this reason, it was very clear to me that I wanted to train as an instructor and thus be able to share all the learning I had received.
I have been teaching the 8-week MBSR program at the Meditació Espai Obert center in Barcelona and I am currently teaching at MyFisio.
I have given workshops on Emotional Management and Stress Reduction to workers of the Information and Communication department of the TMB Metro network.
I have done several silent retreats with different instructors.
Committed to the daily practice of meditation and to contributing, as much as possible, to the well-being of others.
